Literally: "breath of
breaths" the LXX translated "nothingness" hence
the KJV "vanity".
Much Jewish thought followed this line. One midrash explains the
seven-fold (plural = 2) use of "hebel" pointing to the
undoing of the work of each of creation's days!
Zohar II 47b, however, uses the same expression "breath of
breaths" to speak of the divine voice! (Cf. Dt 8:3)
